MORE THAN RUGBY

This month's Rave Review book of choice is definitely worthy of it's praise. You know him as the legendary Number 8 of South African rugby. Anytime he touches the ball the deafening sounds of 'Spies' rings out throughout every stadium he plays in, and his strength and power has made him a feared opponent of any international player. But as this book teaches us, it's not just his gorgeous looks and adonis type body that makes him so special, it's his humility, his unwavering faith, and his strength of character. That's what makes Pierre Spies a hero to his family, to his teammates and especially to his fans.

More Than Rugby is a stunningly written memoir by one of the most popular sportsmen to ever don the Green and Gold.  Pierre Spies, being only 26 has put together some of the biggest trials and triumph's he has experienced in life so far. Not only is this one of the most sincerest, and honest sport's books we've ever reviewed, it's full of motivation as well as a massive sense of unwavering faith.

From family stories and anecdotes to playing rugby for the first time, it's all in there. Pierre also talks about how he felt when a serious medical scare kept him out of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.  With the foreward of the book written by Victor Matfield, and contributions by Morne Steyn, Bryan Habana and Juan Smith, this is a rugby fan's dream read. Something tells us though, that  not only die hard fans will enjoy this book, it will appeal to everyone.

A powerful book with incredible words of inspiration. There is one that clearly struck a chord with us - "If you can't change anything, make a decision to move on; walk by faith. It is in the simple things where the strength lies. Stick to what you believe, and don't lose faith. Never".

Pierre Spies's More Than Rugby is most definitely just as it's title suggests. It's about more than just the game South African's live for. It encompasses the human spirit, it teaches us to never give up on our dreams, and to never walk without our faith. Rave Review has to say that Pierre's actions certainly resonate with his words; look where he is now? On his way to New Zealand to the Rugby World Cup 2011 and we'll be cheering him on every step of the way.

More Than Rugby is available from bookstores nationwide at the suggested retail price of R215
