MATRIC DANCES MADE EASY

We know the drama of it all too well. It was only ten years ago, but the feelings I felt will never go away. It's one of panic, night sweats and complete anxiety. It keeps you up at night and you wonder if life will ever be normal again. It's every girls (under 18) biggest night - it's the Matric Dance.

Even though the culmination of one's schooling career tends to be later on in the year, that doesn't stop you from agonising about it. What dress do you buy, will the colour choice suit you, and the biggest worry since sliced bread, who do you get to design it? One would think the fun and games stop there but in fact its only just beginning. Do you wear strappy heels or killer stilletto's? Hair up and slicked back reminiscent of a starving runway model or down and flowy like Jessica Alba? What about the mani and pedi for the evening's event, your nails must look regal and don't even get me started on what constitutes the perfect spray tan. All of this stressing and you haven't even found a date yet, or you have, but you're battling to educate him on the do's and don't of looking sympatico on the night.  You know? Making sure his tie matches your dress. It's all got to flow.

Once your dress is checked off the list and the issue of hair and makeup is sorted out, one would think you could take a breath and resign yourself to the fact that you will end up looking decent after all on the big night. Wrong. The worrying doesn't stop there. Now you have a bigger problem. How do you make your grand entrance and which limo company do you use. Best choose a reputable company; the memories of my Matric Dance limo is it getting stuck before it had even left the driveway and all the boys having to get out to push it - oh the horror of it all. Plus you can't exactly have your dad drive you and your date to the dance in his old Corolla. Cringeworthy just thinking about it.

Most girls, and their mothers, plus their dates.....and come to think of it, their date's mothers often end up in the loony bin come Matric Dance time. There is so much to do and organise that sometimes it gets a little bit overwhelming and you feel like you're planning a wedding instead of a graduation party. Thank heavens these guys have shown up to save the day - they are every matriculants very own fairy godmother.

The Beeld Matric Farewell Expo is a fashion based event happening in March offering you the very best from designer gowns to suits, shoes, makeup artists, hairstylists, flowers, beauty and health to luxury limo hire and anything else Matric Farewell related.  We suggest you head down there and check out what they have to offer to make the decisions easier on you! If you are a professional in any of the above industries you can take an exhibition stand at the expo yourself and show off your talents.

I'd be happy to bet that Cinderella wishes this event was around when she went to the ball, perhaps had she attended something like this, she would have been able to stop her beautiful carriage from turning back into an orange vegetable that goes great with Steak!

THE BEELD MATRIC FAREWELL EXPO IS HAPPENING ON THE 10TH- 11TH MARCH 2012 AT VODAWORLD IN MIDRAND.
