SAFE HAVEN

Its not secret who my favourite author is. Nicholas Sparks is a literary genius when it comes to stories that tug at the heartstrings and leave you totally invested in the characters he creates. Safe Haven has been a long favourite of mine and knowing that ALL of Nicholas’s books eventually get turned into movies, I was patiently waiting for this one to arrive. A young woman, played by Julianne Hough, arrives in the sleepy town of Southport with an enigmatic past and a terrible secret. She falls for a hunky widower, played by Josh Duhamel (who wouldn’t fall for him) and forms a strong bond with his kids. But when her past starts to invade her present and threatens to derail her new start, she’ll have to dig deep and learn to trust the new people around her.

THE GREAT GATSBY

I first read F Scott Fitzgerald’s epic love story The Great Gatsby when I was in Matric and it consumed me. I was obsessed with it. It quickly became my favourite book and I have read it more than 40 times since and the first movie with Mia Farrow is still in my collection. So would Baz Luhrman’s modern interpretation of that era add up? Jay Gatsby is a mysterious man. Nobody is allowed close enough to get to know him. Nobody but one person, Nick Carraway. When Gatsby invites his new neighbour Nick over to one of his party’s, is it just to get to know him? Or does it have to do with the fact that Nick’s cousin is Gatsby’s one true love, Daisy. And she just happens to live across the bay from Gatsby visible only to the naked eye by a bright green light.

DALLAS (SECOND SEASON)

The second season of the newly revamped cult classic, Dallas lives up to its bill. The Ewings are back to basics in this season, where oil, trysts and drama are the name of the game. We also say goodbye to one of the centuries most beloved villains JR Ewing, and the circumstances surrounding his death, just as we would expect, cause more shockwaves and cliffhangers than when he was alive. A fitting send off, and an incredible storyline this season leave us salivating for season three to start soon.
