JOHNNY CLEGG - ONE LAST TIME

Johnny Clegg to perform last Johannesburg concert at Ticketpro Domeas part of The Final Journey World Tour

Johnny Clegg is set to perform one more Johannesburg concert as part of his Final Journey World Tour thanks to an overwhelming demand from his fans.

The once-off performance takes place at the Ticketpro Dome on Saturday, November 11, where Clegg will be joined on stage by a group of friends who include top local musicians Prime Circle, Soweto Gospel Choir, Jesse Clegg, Sipho Mchunu, Just Jinjer Parlotones and Arno Carstens.

Earlier this year Johnny announced a final set of concerts in South Africa and overseas to thank his fans for their support over the 40-year long journey that spans his career.

The Johannesburg concerts sold out within hours of opening, leaving many people disappointed.

Says Clegg: “I am delighted to be joined on stage by some of this country’s best talent who also happen to be my friends. It is the perfect ending to my tour and the final opportunity to thank audiences for their incredible support.”

Adds Johnny Clegg manager and promoter Roddy Quin from Real Concerts: “We have had so many requests from artists to pay a tribute to Johnny that we have tried to include as many as we can as part of this show and made the decision to add one last Johannesburg concert to the tour in a much bigger venue to accommodate those who missed the first series of concerts, and who wanted to be part of what will be an historical moment in South African music history. We have also dropped ticket prices to make it accessible for everyone.”

The concert is built around Clegg’s unparalleled repertoire of songs which began with the release of Juluka’s Universal Men in 1979 and continued through the Savuka years and his more recent solo work.

Clegg’s many different hits and live favourites will be brought to life by the biggest production ever created for a Clegg live show, supported by his world-class live band.

Another highlight of the shows will be the different styles of dance that have been integral to Clegg’s life and work, ever since he learnt the fundamentals of Zulu music and traditional Zulu Inhlangwinini dancing with Charlie Mzila while still a teenager.

After the Final Journey World Tour Clegg will take time off to finish his autobiography and spend time with his family and do the things he hasn't been able to do due to an incredible work schedule over the past three decades.
