Mother’s Day proved to be an extra special one this year. I got to spend the day with my mama, a lady who has raised me to be every bit of the woman I am today, who catches me when I fall, hugs me when I’m sick and guides me everyday with her wisdom, kindness and sense of grace. Thats my mom. I’m sure all of you out there think that your mom’s are the bee’s knees too, and I hope that you made her day one to remember.
When Penguin Books South Africa invited my mom and I to their Mother’s Day High Tea with bestselling author Elizabeth Noble, I didn’t jump at the chance, I dived right at it! Like I said a few weeks ago in the review of Elizabeth’s new book (read it here), Between A Mother And Her Child, she just happens to be my favourite author. Her writing is sincere, honest and never fails to inspire me. Being a bit of a groupie and having read ALL of her books, I could not wait to spend the afternoon with the two women who have challenged and inspired me.
The setting for the afternoon was at a deliciously delightful venue. Little Tuscany Boutique Hotel. Known to many, but definitely new to me, and one to visit again in my books. Penguin Books SA put on a fabulous afternoon. An amazing tea full of cupcakes, pastries, and cakes awaited us. There were tea’s in every flavour and savoury treats to tickle our fancy. We were all spoilt rotten with decadent goodie bags full of prezzies from Lindt, YOU Magazine, as well as some divine reading material including Elizabeth’s previous bestseller The Way We Were.
Women from all walks of life came together to meet their literary heroine, to hear her speak, to ask her questions, and to enjoy each others company for the day. Elizabeth Noble did not disappoint. Her incredible sense of self shone through, and her wicked sense of humor and dazzling personality made us all feel like we were talking to the girl next door. Make that a very sassy and savvy girl next door!!
An absolutely spectacular day, shared with even more fantastic people. Huge thanks to Penguin Books SA for hosting us, to Elizabeth Noble for entertaining us, and to Rave Review’s special new friends for taking to the site and signing up almost immediately – Rave Review definitely looks forward to bringing you more awesome Penguin Books events like this, and inviting our readers to share in the love.
